Help realise The Digital Streetpaper

Street papers exist to help homeless and vulnerable people earn a dignified income.

Here's an idea to help digitise the Big Issue. The digital street paper will be accessed by purchasing a printed coupon, sold by vendors and offered as an online alternative to the printed magazine, at the same cover price.

This is the first Kickstarter project I've supported, in part because of my association with the people behind it. Davie Craik, of Bright Signals has been working on this project, and my boyfriend's company, Inner Ear created the video working with the very talented Andy Brown.

From the world’s first street magazine in New York City, street papers have grown to become a global movement against social injustice, with 122 editions now being published in 40 different countries.

This worldwide family is joined together by the International Network of Street Papers, which helps street papers share knowledge, skills and technology.

There are various opportunities for supporting this project through crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter, including original artwork by Edinburgh based, Tommy Perman.

My International Women's Day discovery, Anna Meredith

To celebrate International Women's Day I'd like to share my new female discovery. I first heard about Anna Meredith during my time at RSNO as she'd been composer in residence with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Only now, this afternoon have I discovered how brilliant and inventive this London based composer is as both as a contemporary classical composer but more exciting (at least for me), as an electronic musician.

You can listen to her first electronic EP via bandcamp below. Each of these tracks are quite different and having only listened to them a few times, I suspect they are going to be played lots on rotation as they're ace. I totally love the track Orca, repetative with massive delays and beautiful layering.

My boyfriend knows Anna as they were both brought up in Edinburgh and played together as kids. I met her when I was in London last month where she had just come from a teaching session at the South Bank. I hadn't realised quite how busy a lady she is, with a comission for the Cultural Olympiad 2012 and an exciting live film score as part of the Birds Eye View, an organisation that promotes female filmmakers happening this year.

If you're based in London and you're looking for a film premiere tomorrow evening, head along to The Purcell Rooms at the Southbank where you can hear the premiere of Anna's piece to accompany the silent movie, The New Hat. Well, not quite a premiere of the short film as it's a century old but the tunage will be brand spanking new, see more at http://www.birds-eye-view.co.uk/4588/mary-pickford-revived-i/sound-silents-ma...

Socially Scotland, Thu 16 Feb 6-9pm New Zealand House, London

I'm representing Walking Heads at a Social Media Week London event tomorrow. Hosted by Social Media Week Glasgow partners, twintangibles, KILTR and Inner Ear, Socially Scotland kicks off at 6pm at New Zealand House in the west end (of London that is).  It's a chance to recap and highlight activities from social media week that was hosted in Glasgow alongside other cities throughout the globe in September 2011.

I was involved in a myriad of events during Social Media Week Glasgow. Inner Ear was the official livestream partner which included filming and of course, live streaming many events throughout the week alongside hosting specific happenings throughout the week including a pre-launch event for Walking Heads Glasgow Music Tour.

Here's an intro video that Inner Ear produced introducing Social Media Week Glasgow, recognise the voice? More on that later.
